H-E-B's Manufacturing Sourcing and Procurement team enhances our customer shopping experience by contracting the best ingredients and packing at optimal prices, which helps keep prices competitive on high-quality finished goods.As a Manufacturing Purchasing Manager, you'll support H-E-B's goal to source the best items / suppliers while increasing profit margins, providing competitive advantage, and serving as a subject matter expert. You'll procure items used in manufacturing operations in one of the following assigned categories: commodities, ingredients, or packaging.Once you're eligible, you'll become an Owner in the company, so we're looking for commitment, hard work, and focus on quality and Customer service. 'Partner-owned' means our most important resources--People--drive the innovation, growth, and success that makes H-E-B The Greatest Retailing Company.Do you have a: HEART FOR PEOPLE... unwavering prioritization of People, Quality, Service, Cost?HEAD FOR BUSINESS... insatiable appetite to understand market trends and build on the team's expertise?PASSION FOR RESULTS... ability to negotiate financially advantageous scenarios for Manufacturing and H-E-B?We are looking for: - a commensurate degree in a field related to the specific job; relevant experience- negotiation and quantitative communication skillsWhat is the work?Management:- Consistently delivers product to specifications / standards required by Plants and BDMs- Understands customer needs of both Manufacturing Plants and finished goods BDMs- Proposes net-net analyses (e.g., availability / cost of warehouse space for potential acquisitions)- Applies analytical decision-making related to financials (impact-to-cost, cause and effect modeling, etc.)- Analyzes specific product categories / items in trend analyses, economic research (macro / micro), influences, quality, characteristics, competition, and nuances specific to sourcing of products- Independently locates, creates, and implements cost-saving activities; manages supplier relations / negotiations related to cost negotiations, promo planning, supply chain communication- Properly manages procurement to spot buys, agreements, contracts, and strategic partnerships- Works with supply chain on initial product forecasting, following up on purchase orders, re-orders- Builds / manages strategic vendor relationships; ensures accountability using contract standards and other metrics- Communicates contract-ordering strategy to Partners who cut purchase orders- Understands / articulates goals, objectives of H-E-B Manufacturing Division and Fund the Future initiatives- Applies knowledge of food-related regulations (FDA, USDA, etc.) and a thorough understanding of inventory / supply chain contract options- Procures specifically-assigned items used in manufacturing operations: commodities, ingredients, or packagingCOMMODITIES-SPECIFIC DUTIES:- Establishes fixed components for all portions of contracts that are not market-regulated components (premiums, freight / rail, farmer incentives, etc.)- Leverages agricultural / commodity network in Texas region- Manages risk through contracted terms and conditions- Establishes favorable price points in USDA-regulated commodity marketsINGREDIENTS-SPECIFIC DUTIES:- Optimizes costs throughout product development processes- Consolidates items across vendor suppliers- Adheres to contracting order parameters: freight options, minimum order quantities, order frequency, warehousing options, safety stock, lead times, etc.- Applies understanding of food science and conversion of raw materials to finished goodsPACKAGING-SPECIFIC DUTIES:- Optimizes packaging and plant equipment interface, considering existing / potential specifications- Leverages knowledge of how vendors outsource products to one another for potential future consolidation work- Facilitates cost reduction as printing technologies continue to disrupt the market- Applies fundamental understanding of packaging materials and manufacturing equipmentWhat is your background?- Bachelor's degree in one of the following, plus formal training in an additional area: business, finance, equity analytics, engineering, science, or a relevant field- 5+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or agriculture environment (commodities); manufacturing, food, or equity analysis environment (ingredients); manufacturing or relevant environment (packaging)Do you have what it takes to be a fit as a Manufacturing Purchasing Manager for H-E-B?- Working knowledge of budgeting and expense tracking / controls and return on investment (ROI)- Fundamental understanding of assigned category- Proficiency in MS Office applications- Advanced negotiation skills - Strong project management and analytical skills- Strong organization and time-management skills- Strong communication skills- Quantitative communication / financial projection skills- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects / tasks; attention to detailCan you...- Function in a fast-paced, retail, office environment- Travel by car or plane with overnight stays- Sit for extended periods of time- Work extended hours
