Responsibilities
Job Summary: The Public Affairs Manager for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) provides support in the development and direction of H-E-B's Public Affairs DEI strategies and corporate image initiatives.Essential functions and process responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)- Provides managerial leadership and support in regional function areas that advance departmental goals and objectives. Function areas are defined as: Communication, Community Relations, Media Relations, Governmental Relations, and Public Relations- Provides creative input, tactical leadership, and counsel to function area strategies and implementation of Public Affairs objectives- Serves as company spokesperson to news media within defined parameters- Creates critical message points, papers, and releases in support of media relations plan, including contacting media representatives- Develops and maintains internal and external relationships with key stakeholders that advance and support corporate image initiatives- Serves directly in community and civic roles in a leadership capacity- Develops external communication initiatives in support of H-E-B's image and interests related to products, quality, service, brand, and community efforts- Implements H-E-B's public relations plan and strategies, including the maintenance of public branding opportunities and events- Initiates relationships with third party vendor, contractors, and consultant services- Develops regional budgeting processes for operational, charitable, and non-charitable expenses- Develops H-E-B's community relations plans and programs, including the maintenance and implementation of regional philanthropic efforts- Manages staff; provides inter-department leadership on projects, processes, programs- Manages Public Affairs project/regional budgets- Creates, organizes, and implements large public events
- Works with ERGs, PRGs, and diversity councils
- Owns DEI Awareness implementations and trainingsExperience and Education Preferred- A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience in DEI- 3+ years of experience in public relations, government relations, community relations, non-profit or communications capacity- History of working relationships with public officials (municipal, county, state, federal)
- History of working with diversity councils (ERGs, PRGs, etc.)Key Competencies Preferred
- Background or formal training in DEI (highly preferred)
- Experience working with ERGs, PRGs, and diversity councils (highly preferred)
- Experience with DEI awarness implementation and training (highly preferred)- Understanding of operational functions of non-profit, government, non-government, and other civic organizations- Familiarity with what's needed to manage outside public relations, advertising, and promotional contractors- Advanced public speaking, presentation, and writing skills- Advanced interpersonal skills- Ability to work in a team environmentPhysical and Other Requirements- Travel by car or plane with overnight stays- Some evening and weekend work- Limited travel within state - Ability to attend external meetings, events, civic functions
