Network Administrator I - North Campus
FUNCTION: Network generalist which provides support, maintenance, and monitoring of internal and external networks and telephony. Implements and manages assigned systems, applications, security, and network configurations. Assists in resolving network performance issues. Recommends upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment. Provides technical support and guidance to users. Relies on knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides network support including hardware and software tools as well as installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of LAN and WAN switches, wireless access points and controllers, Core Switches, Firewalls, and VPNs.
- Ensures network connectivity for all devices.
- Assists with Network Design and capacity planning.
- Supports the monitoring and maintenance of telephony systems.
- Develops and documents standards for network devices.
- Recommends, schedules, and implements repairs to the LAN/WAN.
- Monitors and tests network performance and provides network performance statistics and reports.
- Ensures quality assurance processes are being followed, including service levels as outlined in the ITS Service Level Agreement and change control procedures.
- Monitors security on enterprise systems using best practice standards.
- Provides after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies as well as occasional weekend maintenance.
Additional Job Functions:
- Server management of data monitoring systems.
- Fiber and cabling diagnostics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Familiar with network infrastructure and network hardware.
- Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices including wireless access points and controllers, firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Knowledge of industry standard networking protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
- Familiarity with analog and VoIP telephony.
- Ability to work well with others and to demonstrate an excellent quality of work with little or no supervision required.
- Must be highly organized and possess excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Required Education:
- Associates degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of related IT work experience required.
- Experience in IP network/wireless infrastructure implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and support.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with log monitoring, aggregation, and analytics tools.
- Experience in the implementation and support of firewalls, network cores, switches, access points, controllers, and VPN.
- Experience in Higher Education preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- CompTIA Network+ or equivalent technical certification.
Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
- JNCIA or equivalent technical certification.
- CompTIA Security Plus or equivalent technical certification.
NOTE: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.
Salary Grade: 115
