For nearly five decades, the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) has inspired and prepared the next generation of Texas engineering professionals. TAME is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Engineering. TAME is dedicated to inspiring and supporting middle and high school students in exploring and pursuing engineering careers, aiming to provide opportunities for all students to engage with the field.

Purpose
The Executive Director, reporting directly to the Board of Directors, provides strategic leadership to advance TAME’s mission of creating opportunities for students to explore futures in engineering. This role is responsible for leading organizational change, guiding the organization’s vision, overseeing daily operations, ensuring financial sustainability through fundraising, and managing financial resources. As the primary advocate and ambassador for TAME, the Executive Director will build partnerships, address evolving community engagement needs, and expand TAME’s reach and impact across Texas. Additionally, the Executive Director ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and fosters a collaborative, adaptive culture to support TAME's continued success and sustainability.
Responsibilities
Partnerships and Community Engagement
Forges strategic partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and industry leaders to expand TAME’s reach and impact.
Strengthens regional engagement and volunteerism to enhance program delivery and access to STEM pathways.
- Promotes TAME’s programs and goals through community engagement to increase awareness and support.
Strategic Leadership and Vision
Leads and executes TAME’s strategic vision, aligning initiatives with the mission to inspire and prepare students for careers in engineering and STEM fields.
Serves as a dynamic leader and advocates, engaging stakeholders such as staff, board members, volunteers, educators, industry partners, and donors.
Represents TAME as the primary spokesperson, fostering strong key relationships across the state of Texas.
Guides the organization through transitions, consistently aligning organizational structure, community engagement, and growth efforts with strategic plans.
Team Leadership and Organizational Culture
Fosters a collaborative work culture that supports staff well-being, retention, engagement, and professional growth.
Leads leadership recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts to maintain a mission-aligned team reflective of varied perspectives and experiences.
Supervises staff and oversees daily operations to ensure efficiency, mission alignment, and strong team engagement.
Develops succession plans for long-term sustainability.
Sustainability and Financial Management
Oversees budgeting, forecasting, and financial management practices in collaboration with the fractional Finance director, the Board, and Finance Committee.
Monitors financial performance, implementing corrective actions to maintain fiscal health and sustainability.
Builds and maintains relationships with key supporters, articulating TAME’s mission and funding needs to secure corporate, private, and foundation support.
Board Relations and Governance
Collaborates with the Board to ensure effective governance through transparent communication, well-prepared updates, and strategic support.
Ensures compliance with governance policies and legal requirements for maintaining nonprofit corporation status.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Proven leadership or management experience in nonprofits, fundraising, education, youth development, community outreach, social impact, STEM, or related fields.
A combination of experience in:
Program management or implementation.
Fundraising, stakeholder engagement, or development.
Youth support, education, or STEM fields.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage and inspire stakeholders
Passion for TAME’s mission
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a STEM, Education, Youth Development, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
Five (5) years of leadership or management experience in nonprofit, fundraising, education, youth development, community outreach, social impact, STEM, or related fields.
Experience in creating, managing, and expanding educational or youth programs, particularly in STEM or communities with limited representation.
Strong financial knowledge, including budgeting and resource management.
Proven experience leading teams through organizational transitions and change management.
Demonstrated success in cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors, partners, and community organizations to sustain and expand mission-driven support.
Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams that are engaged, collaborative, and aligned with organizational values.
Familiarity with K-12 STEM education outreach and youth development programs.
Strategic thinker with the ability to creatively address challenges, manage multiple priorities, and adjust to evolving needs.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Salary Range
$ 110,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
Work Shift
Periodic work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for events or peak periods.
Periodic travel to conferences, events, and weekend events during the spring semester is required.
This position may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement (hybrid—primarily remote telework). Texas residency is required.
