What is the work?
Design & Development / IT:
- Designs / analyzes / evaluates / tests / debugs / implements applications programs supporting H-E-B infrastructure business processes, operations, and network-based product systems
- Analyzes / installs / configures / tests / modifies / maintains operating systems, databases, utilities software, or system management tools
- Writes / maintains custom scripts to increase system efficiency
- Adheres to architected technology roadmaps in designs and implementations
- Serves as technical subject matter expert (SME) for cross-functional IT Teams; assists with / troubleshoots systems-related issues and maintenance
- Assists in refining and communicating common goals and direction for team
- Applies experience / knowledge of available technologies to provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions; assists in creating / presenting hands-on demonstrations for proposed solutions
- Monitors internal and vendor service level objectives (SLOs) and agreements (SLAs); identifies / resolves SLO / SLA gaps
- Monitors / tests system performance for productivity issues; identifies potential solutions; collaborates with vendors, other Digital Teams to implement them
- Maintains security, backup, and redundancy strategies
- Documents / promotes H-E-B standards and procedures
- Supports complex projects requiring specialized technical knowledge
- Coordinates with technical / non-technical Partners and clients to determine business requirements
- Collaborates cross-functionally to align goals, establish milestones, maintain hardware / software, if needed, monitor progress, proactively manage challenges, risks, and constraints, communicate with appropriate stakeholders, and implement initiatives
What is your background?
- A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
- 4+ years of related systems experience
Do you have what it takes to be a fit as an H-E-B Systems Engineer?
- Working knowledge of networking technologies (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
- Working understanding of various operating systems and their impact / implications
- Working understanding of best practices related to system security measures, and with system administration, performance tuning, and monitoring
- Strong communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python)
- Project management skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced technical environment with increasing support demands and complexity
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and assigned tasks to meet deadlines and objectives
- Ability to collaborate and openly share ideas with a team of like-minded professionals
Key Requirements for a Core Storage Engineer at HEB:
- Linux and Windows command line skills
- Cisco and Brocade networking experience
- Knowledge of Store SAN provisioning
- Knowledge of block file and object protocols
- Knowledge of stretch clustering
- Software Engineering/Automation experience
- Data Protection Experience
