What you'll do (Design & Development)
- Develop technical roadmaps and lead engineers across one or more squads to deliver initiatives
- Make recommendations for overall application system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance
- Operate with minimal direction to drive large-scale initiatives
- Provide end-to-end support to applications
- Lead large initiatives across one or more squads including technical design / delivery of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves the customer and Partner user experiences
- Support the build and deployment pipeline and when necessary, both diagnose and solve production support issues
- Identify, scope, and architect solutions for new features while considering technology alternatives and all impacts / tradeoffs
- Identify ways to improve codebases, solutions to complex problems, and effectively propose paths forward to drive outcomes
- Coach and mentor other engineers in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed
- Apply understanding to constantly improve the edge and cloud infrastructure that powers our world-class point of sale, fuel, and electronic payment systems
- Create documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards
- Work closely with Security, Network, Infrastructure, and QA to deliver world-class digital experiences
- Work closely with non-technical stakeholders to understand system requirements and design features to meet their needs
- Work closely with external partners and technical vendors to design integrated hardware and software solutions
- Recommend changes to processes and tools at the group / dept level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices
- Influence others in technical decision-making / technology adoption within their domain
- Diagnose / troubleshoot extremely complex issues independently
- Help grow Digital Engineering by driving execution of organization-wide activities
- Get the opportunity to stay ahead of new technologies with an eye to evaluating and potentially incorporating them into your team's architecture; introduce new technologies that have ROI / influence
Who You Are
- You have an ownership mentality and a consistent track record of timely delivery of high-quality software
- You have skills in multiple languages, technologies, and frameworks and can quickly on-board to projects in minimal time
- You have expert knowledge in C or C++ programming languages
- You’re familiar with build and release processes for edge systems and have expert knowledge using a variety of tooling including Docker and Kubernetes
- You have expert knowledge of large-scale, distributed system architecture and design patterns and are familiar with microservices architecture
- You have experience working on large-scale, distributed systems and may have experience working on legacy code migrations
- You have experience working on production support
- You're capable and interested in learning new technologies, processes, or business quickly and effectively
- You approach problem-solving holistically and consider solutions through a combination of technology and process
- You have an expert understanding of development methodologies and processes
- You understand cross-tech stacks and scalability and reliability implications
- You can coordinate work for a group of engineers on major initiatives
- You can coordinate work with vendors, external partners, and non-technical stakeholders
- You can coordinate the work for a global team
- You have worked on hardware/software integrations
- You have deep knowledge about multiple technologies, including technology used at H-E-B
- You have at least 3+ years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer, or comparable experience
- You have a related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
