OverviewThe Store Experience team in Digital is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our reinvention and modernization efforts focused on systems that manage all paper and electronic shelf labels and tags across all H-E-B stores. This individual should be passionate about balancing innovation projects with modernization goals. As a Software Engineering Manager, you'll raise up your team, helping develop individual careers and achieving goals, addressing common team problems, coaching, and mentoring the engineers. You will lead a skilled, highly motivated team that builds, maintains, and continually improves an ecosystem of web and backend services to help our store Partners print, hang, and deliver both paper & electronic price and product information directly to our H-E-B shelves. You'll provide leadership across all aspects of the Agile development lifecycle as a Software Engineering Manager to maintain a high bar for technology, people, and process.What You'll Do (Management, Strategy)
- Directly supervise individual contributors
- Coach / mentor others in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed; empower team members to be autonomous, fast, and effective
- Manage all HR responsibilities for your team, including pay planning, promotions, expenses, and leave
- Understand / foster the value of radical candor when having 1:1 conversations
- Lead large initiatives within the team, including technical design / delivery of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves the customer and Partner user experiences
- Help grow Digital Engineering by driving execution of organization-wide activities
- Prioritize projects and work to ensure alignment with Product Owners / Managers and business leaders; provide systems / business process updates and status
- Recommend improvements to overall application system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance
- Identify ways to improve codebases, solutions to complex problems; effectively propose paths forward to drive outcomes
- Recommend changes to processes and tools at the group / dept level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices
- Diagnose / troubleshoot extremely complex issues
- Create documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards
- Set goals for team / team Partner growth; provide frequent performance feedback; write / deliver Corporate-directed performance reviews; address poor performance; develop top-tier talent
- Jump down to IC-level duties, when needed, to provide guidance on code reviews or pull requests
Who You Are
- You have a related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
- You have 6+ years as a Software Engineer and have successful leadership (of small teams of 4 - 8) experience
- You have expert knowledge of system architecture and design patterns
- You have deep knowledge of multiple technologies,

- You have an expert understanding of development methodologies and processes
- You understand cross-tech stacks and scalability and reliability implications
- You have technical competence equivalent to expectations of a Senior Engineer
- You have skills in multiple languages, technologies, and frameworks and can quickly on-board to projects in minimal time
- You're capable of learning new technologies, processes, or business quickly and effectively
- You approach problem-solving holistically and consider solutions through a combination of technology and processes
- You can coordinate work for a group of engineers on major initiatives
