Purpose
Oversee career coaching for an academic department within the College of Natural Sciences, providing leadership and strategic direction to support student career development. Empower students to engage in early career exploration to create and implement meaningful career goals. Advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students. Ensure alignment with the overall strategic goals and metrics of Career Success initiatives
Responsibilities
- Supervision & Management: Oversee career coaching initiatives, focused on achieving the strategic goals of Career Success initiatives through career programs, alumni engagement, communications, course facilitation, and collaborative representation efforts of an academic department. Supervise a team that focus on career development opportunities for specific industries and fields within the academic department. Provide ongoing training to the career coaching team. Create and maintain training materials for new career coaches. Play a leadership role in maintaining strategic partnerships and fostering student career development across the College of Natural Sciences. Implement strategies to promote Career Success initiatives amongst all student populations.
- Career Coaching & Professional Development: Advise and assist students in their career search regarding their qualifications and transferrable skills related to career pathways, opportunities, employment trends, and salary information. Develop and utilize effective career search materials using best practices for neurodiversity and learning style differences for students seeking career information. Collect and utilize occupational data and current labor market information. Manage the collection and dissemination of information about employers and employment opportunities to students. Plan and coordinate workshops and presentations for students, staff, and faculty. Teach effectively and present to large groups on career-related and professional development topics.
- Internship & Career Courses: Participate in the ongoing development and facilitation of courses for students in the College of Natural Sciences. Serve as the instructor and/or co-facilitator, develop curricula and teach using best practices for neurodiversity and learning style differences. Provide administrative support for the courses including managing internship course applications. Grade assignments and manage student communications through Canvas.
- Collaborative Career Education: Work with other staff members in the undergraduate division to create and facilitate programs to make career services a part of conversations in the college. Educate and train staff, faculty and student leaders in helping students to identify, articulate and translate curricular and co-curricular experiences into career readiness competencies. Plan and coordinate workshops and seminars for students, staff and faculty. Teach effectively and present to large groups. Update resource materials, communications and website.
- Data Collection & Evaluation: Create initatives to promote the completion of the 12twenty career outcomes survey to recent graduates and currently enrolled students. Analyze career programs and iniatives for effectiveness and provide data-driven outcome reports to director. Effectively translate the data of recent graduates to tell the career story of students within the academic department.
- Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within CNS.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree and four years of experience in mentoring, coaching, career services, health professions, natural sciences profession, human resources, or a related field. Exceptional resume writing, interviewing, and job search skills. Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment. Time management, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and excellent oral and written communication. Must be able to occasionally travel including overnight travel, work some weekends and evenings.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience supervising teams and managing career focused programs. Experience with Life Design and Brain-Based Coaching. Experience working with or coaching natural sciences majors in higher education career services or a relevant natural sciences profession. Prior experience with corporate recruiting, managing internship and experiential learning programs, or other career-oriented opportunities. Experience leading groups, workshops, and delivering presentations. Direct experience with university career services platforms including 12twenty.
Salary Range
$65,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
- Some evening and weekends required.
