Engineering & Technical Support, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.
Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code §51.215. Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department. This is a 40 hour work week schedule; Monday-Friday, hours to be discussed with supervisor. This position is required to occasionally work on-call.
Purpose
The purpose of this position is to support the long term maintenance of buildings and renovations prior to the start of the project, through commissioning warranty phase. Candidate is to provide field and technical support to the FOM organization by monitoring, implementing, and coordinating with PDC projects.
Responsibilities
- Monitor progress of commissioning with special attention to system level commissioning. Participate, monitor and escalate the progress of various test & balance, inspections, punch list walk-throughs and observations thru completion.
- Provide project support to FOM managed R&R projects, to include field coordination, troubleshooting equipment, and manage small projects as requested by the management.
- Receive and review submittals, equipment inventory, O&M manuals, specs and drawing foe uploading into document management and maintenance management systems. Assist in development of an equipment responsibility matrix.
- Participate in inspections and follow up on resolution of deficiencies. Support the internal maintenance personnel during the walk-through, inspections, punchwalks, and warranty issues to ensure observations are tracked and completed by project. Coordinate involvement with the zone team to understand the maintenance needs for the projects.
- Coordinate contractor-provided training for FOM by understanding the major systems, equipment and needed tools within projects to support the FOM specific personnel. Work with project manager to develop the objectives and content of training to suite the maintenance staff roles.
- Administer warranty process. Make site visits when necessary, meeting with owner, project manager and contractor. Follow up to ensure effective resolution of warranty claims.
- Perform other job related functions as assigned. Drive University vehicles. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
Required Qualifications
High School graduation or GED. Four years experience in providing field and technical support, construction related experience providing working knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and interrelated building systems. Ability to read and interpret construction and technical drawings and specifications. Knowledge of building codes. Have knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System. Demonstrated ability to work as a strong team member and leader with excellent customer/client communication skills. Working knowledge of MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and AdobePro. Ability to follow directions. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree in a Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing technical field. Commissioning Certification, QCP or QCxp, from accredited institution such as Wisconsin University or BCA. More than four years experience in providing field and technical support, construction related experience providing working knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and interrelated building systems. More than four years experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Commissioning and start-up experience of building automation and building infrastructure systems. Knowledge of building and energy codes such as NEC, Plumbing code, ASHREA, NFPA, IEEE, IBC, etc. Experience with simultaneously participating in several projects through to conclusion within restrictive time constraints. Excellent computer skills with ability to use Commissioning software such as Cx Alloy, BIM 360, etc. Demonstrate ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Must have a good understanding of codes and standards. Demonstrated ability to handle responses. Demonstrated ability to give a verbal sequence to a response. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. Demonstrated stable work history. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program. Current Class "C" Operator Driver License required. Prior to date of hire, applicant selected must provide a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) showing a driving history going back 36 months. This includes all states resided in for the past 36 months.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$67,718 + depending on qualifications

Additional Working Conditions:
- This position and associated job duties have been designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed. Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.
- Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.
- May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.
- May be exposed to shop and construction site hazards as associated with the trades supervised.
- May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.
- Considerable walking, standing, squatting, stooping, and moving of heavy materials and equipment in all weather conditions.
- May be required to use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties.

Work Shift
- 40 hours a week, five 8-hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evening, weekends, and holidays possible.
