We are looking to fill a Junior Buyer position to help source raw materials and supplies for manufacturing.
Job Description
A Steel Manufacturing Buyer job involves sourcing and procuring steel materials, negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, ensuring timely delivery, and monitoring inventory to support production, while also analyzing market trends and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing and Procurement:
- Identify and select reliable steel suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to secure the best possible terms.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to meet production schedules.
- Manage supplier relationships to build strong partnerships.
Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure sufficient stock for production needs.
- Plan and optimize inventory levels to minimize costs and avoid shortages.
- Manage stock control and ensure accurate inventory records.
Market Analysis and Cost Optimization:
- Analyze market trends and price fluctuations to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Conduct research and analysis to identify alternative suppliers and materials.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing to secure the best possible terms.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including engineering, production, and quality control.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve purchasing issues related to quality, scheduling, and pricing disputes.

Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze data to identify trends and patterns in steel consumption and supplier performance.
- Prepare reports on material status, including expedited and late orders.
- Track and analyze supplier performance to identify areas for improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is often preferred.
- Experience: Several years of experience in purchasing, supply chain management, or related roles, ideally within the steel industry.
Skills:
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and purchasing software.
- Knowledge of steel grades, specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Other:
- Understanding of inventory management principles.
- Knowledge of supply chain best practices.
- Ability to identify and mitigate supply chain risks.
Work environment will be in a shop office and the buyer must be able to handle a fast-paced work load. Attire is casual to business casual. Working hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm and some Saturdays.
