This position is open to current University of Texas at Austin Police Department commission officers and external candidates that possess a peace officer’s license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)

Purpose
The University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD) Task Force Officer (TFO) position represents a multi-faceted Detective assignment within the Investigations and Mitigation Division and is assigned full time to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) in Austin, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Leverage community partnerships to provide the JTTF and the UTPD with greater domain awareness.
- Cultivate effective and professional working relationships with other departmental units and outside organizations.
- Provide technical expertise and investigative support to personnel as necessary.
- Deliver department and community training on terrorism indicators and domain awareness.
- Conduct investigations and maintain accurate and timely records.
- Work uniformed patrol assignments related to major events or critical incidents on campus as needed.
- Exercise independent and discretionary judgment within the parameters established by law, the Board of Regents Rules and Regulations, institutional administrative regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
- Be proficient with all equipment utilized in the performance of all assigned duties, to include but not limited to, firearms, restraints, less lethal force weapons, vehicles, communication equipment, computers, investigative and surveillance equipment.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to requirements of the position.
- Able to obtain a Peace Officer’s License from TCOLE.
- Successful completion of a TCOLE approved Basic Peace Officer Course
- Successful completion of TCOLE Peace Officer Certification Exam
- Able to obtain appropriate national security clearance commensurate to the TFO position.
- Five years of full-time service as a commissioned peace officer or equivalent experience in a role directly related to the job responsibilities.
- Three years of full-time assignment to an investigative unit as a lead investigator or similar role.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Criminal history shall not contain any felony offense at any time and no misdemeanor offenses above class c within the past 10 years.
- Able to provide credible testimony in court.
- Class C driver’s license.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Thorough and complete knowledge of search and seizure, constitutional law, Texas Code of Criminal Procedures, and Texas Penal Code.
- Exhibit and adhere to the department’s core values: Integrity, Courage, Accountability, Respect, and Ethics.
- Excellent and proven investigative skills involving in depth and complex investigations.
- Excellent communication skills across all methods to include oral communication, electronic mail, written reports, and public speaking.
- A working knowledge of the handling of sensitive or confidential information and demonstrated ability to maintain operation security.
- Ability to work closely with other officers in a team setting.
- Sound officer safety tactics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possess a Peace Officer’s License from TCOLE through the successful completion of TCOLE Peace Officer Certification Exam
- Possess appropriate national security clearance commensurate to the TFO position.
- A minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience with a department of a 100 officers or more.
- 60+ hours of college or more from an accredited college or university.
- Experience working in a higher education or equivalent environment.
- Experience with communication equipment.
- Stable work history.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Ability to maintain a high level of work enthusiasm committed to advancing the objectives and goals of both the JTTF and UTPD.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$68,626 + depending on qualifications
