As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will provide Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) support for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of EHS implementation and compliance programs including but not limited to: OSHA General Industry and Construction standards, hazardous materials, cryogenics, compressed gases, confined space, lasers, robotics, fall protection, PPE, hazard communication, crane safety, lockout/tagout, and radiation safety. You must have a passion for continuous improvement of a safety culture, building agile safety processes, and for solving complex problems and providing operable solutions and be capable of acting with minimal direction on your initiative. You will be responsible for helping to maintain a culture that emphasizes leadership, accountability, discipline, and attention to detail at all levels. Responsibilities: Create and perform environmental and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with the Blue Origin Environmental Health and Safety Manual and all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other applicable government regulatory agencies. Maintain or exceed compliance with all applicable regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, and other applicable regulatory agencies Serve as Subject Matter Expert in Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health matters Review, improve and support current policies and plans as required. Interpret new regulations, determine their applicability to organization procedures and standards, and devise strategies and procedures for compliance. Collaborate directly with teams to complete required hazard analyses / assessments and implement environmental, health and safety policies and procedures Drive EHS compliance, continuous improvements and guide leaders in promoting behavior that result in promoting and maintaining a proactive safety culture Advise management on effective controls for EHS hazards/ concerns within cost and schedule constraints through a hierarchy of controls (elimination, substitution, engineering, work practice, training, and Personal Protective Equipment) to ensure that the safety of personnel, property, and the environment are within bounds of acceptable risk. Perform safety, surveillance, and monitoring of all manufacturing complex hazardous operations Lead or assist in all aspects of incident reporting including initial follow-up, investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Mentor junior engineers and technicians and be responsible for the accuracy of written reports Lead audits and root cause analyses as applicable and participate in meetings for review of findings and opportunities for improvement, implementation of approved corrective actions, and follow-up for effectiveness. Deliver virtual presentations or instruction-led to management and employees on EHS initiatives, metrics/measurements, and implementation plans. Create, update, and coordinate emergency response plans with state and local emergency planning committees as required. Interfacing with state and federal regulatory agencies and preparing reports as required. Inspect manufacturing complex and support operations facilities, and safety equipment Provide oversight and support of PSM activities for all hazardous commodities Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including DOT and RCRA Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, and/ or bachelor’s degree in Engineering from ABET accredited school and 8+ years proven industry specific EHS experience in aerospace operations, chemical/delivery systems, or space and or missile systems, ground systems or similar industry. Relevant certifications will be considered to support years of experience required Strong communication, engagement, and excellent interpersonal skills Strong OSHA and other safety related training and delivery Environmental permitting experience Proficient digital literacy is preferred, specifically with Microsoft products including SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws/environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance Knowledge of Process Safety Management methods, pressure systems, and chemical delivery systems Knowledge of close call reporting practices and processes Good analytical skills and attention to details, technical writing, with an ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired: Bachelor's degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety and/or environmental engineering 10 + years of experience Expertise in Fire/Life Safety Code (NFPA, IBC, IFC) Strong working knowledge of commercial space, NASA, and DoD safety standards ASP, CSP, CIH, or CHMM certification HAZMAT, cryogenic, and/or Liquid Propellant emergency response team experience Six Sigma Green belt or Black belt Experience with implementing and maintaining compliance with storm water regulations Expertise in interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations Strong project management skills and audience communication experience Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water Strong working knowledge of Environmental, Safety & Occupational Health Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
