Job Description Summary:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the FinancialAnalyst is a key contributor in ensuring the success of thePhysics department’sday-to-day accounting transactional activities,budget-related operations,reporting and analysis.
Responsibilities
Ensures the integrity of accounting information by reviewing, recording, and verifying transactions for all Physics’ fund sources. Transactions include but are not limited to transfers, billing, purchase orders, pro-card vouchers, cash/check deposits, travel authorizations, travel reimbursements, budget transfers, and authorizations for individual services.
Oversees the departmental travel request process. This position would be the lead for the department in monitoring travel policies and making procedural updates to accommodate changes, monthly tracking of our Travel database and monitoring the Teams shared email account.
Participates in the preparation of monthly financial statements and annual fiscal year close reports.
Carries out ad hoc reporting and analysis in support of the Physics department which can include forecasting and financial reporting related to grant account closeouts.
Assists with documenting and monitoring internal controls ensuring alignment with fiscal policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, UT System and university regulations and policy. Ensures all aspects of transactions are accurate and entered timely.
Works in tandem with the Purchasing/Payments team as backup processing payment documents during periods of high volume such as travel authorizations, travel reimbursements, PO and/or contract payments.
Assist in Physics Department annual inventory process.
Effectively escalates and communicates issues, while providing status updates on analytics processes and deliverables. Communicates verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers, in a cordial, articulate and timely manner.
Processes Monthly Billing for Physics run Service Centers and provides input during the yearly Rate Review cycle
Other ad hoc duties as assigned. Completes trainings, as needed, on how to use required systems.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
At least three years of related work experience demonstrating increasing responsibility.
Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles, accounting transactions/procedures, financial reporting/analysis, and budgeting.
Strong organizational skills, a flexible work style and be able to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.
Excellent verbal and communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Work as a team member, with confidential information, in multi-tasked environment.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Ability to research problems and to suggest creative solutions.
Ability to deal with ambiguity.professional demeanor, exercise good judgment and high level of professionalism.
Regular, punctual attendance.
High level of proficiency with Excel and various database applications, including direct mainframe access.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an academic department in a higher education setting.Supervisory experience.
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to excel, to be highly motivated, to exercise initiative, and willingness to put forth an extra effort to get a task accomplished.
Demonstrated ability to accept supervision and to be flexible with work assignments and environments. Experience with The University of Texas at Austin's financial system (DEFINE, FRMS), electronic office manager,and human capital management (Workday).
Demonstrated proficiency and advanced knowledge ofExcel.
