What you'll do (Design & Development)
- Follow the directions from lead engineers across one or more squads to deliver initiatives.
- Operate with minimal direction to drive small/Medium-scale initiatives.
- Provide end-to-end support to H-E-B POS applications.
- Lead Small/Medium initiatives across one or more squads, including technical design / delivery of complex features as H-E-B improves the customer and Partner user experiences.
- Support the build and deployment pipeline and, when necessary, both diagnose and solve production support issues.
- Identify, scope, and design the solution for new features while considering technology alternatives and all impacts / tradeoffs.
- Identify ways to improve codebases and solutions to complex problems and effectively propose paths forward to drive outcomes.
- Coach and mentor interns and other junior software engineers in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed.
- Apply understanding to constantly improve the edge and cloud infrastructure that powers our world-class point of sale, fuel, and electronic payment systems.
- Create documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards.
- Work closely with Security, Network, Infrastructure, and QA to deliver world-class digital experiences.
- Work closely with non-technical stakeholders to understand system requirements and design features to meet their needs.
- Influence others in technical decision-making / technology adoption within their domain.
- Diagnose / troubleshoot complex issues independently.
- Help grow Digital Engineering by driving the execution of team-wide activities.
Who You Are
- You have an ownership mentality and a consistent track record of timely delivery of high-quality software.
- You have skills in multiple languages, technologies, and frameworks and can quickly onboard to projects in minimal time.
- You have expert knowledge in C or C++ programming languages.
- Golang, Java, and Kubernetes knowledge is a plus.
- You're familiar with build and release processes for Edge systems and have expert knowledge of various tooling, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- You're familiar with large-scale, distributed system architecture and design patterns and are familiar with microservices architecture.
- You have experience working on large-scale, distributed systems and may have experience working on legacy code migrations.
- You have experience working on production support.
- You're capable and interested in learning new technologies, processes, or business quickly and effectively.
- You approach problem-solving holistically and consider solutions through a combination of technology and process.
- You have an expert understanding of development methodologies and processes.
- You understand cross-tech stacks and their implications for scalability and reliability.
- You can coordinate work for a group of engineers on small/medium initiatives.
- You have worked on hardware/software integrations.
- You have deep knowledge about multiple technologies, including technology used at H-E-B.
- You have at least 3+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or comparable experience.
- You have a related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience.
