The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Pediatric Mental Health Therapist. This position has an end date of 08/31/25 and may be renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals. Funding is expected to continue.
This is a federally funded position sponsored by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). TCMHCC was created by the 86th Texas Legislature to leverage the expertise and capacity of the health-related institutions of higher education to address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in this state in relation to children and adolescents. The University of Texas Dell Medical School (DMS) is a Health Related Institution (HRI) for the Texas Children’s Mental Health Care Consortium. The program and projects of the Dell Medical School HRI work to address the clinical needs of the programs which address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in Texas for children and adolescents.
The Pediatric Mental Health Therapist will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, ability work independently with a strong attention to detail, effective oral and written communication skill, and will possess a commitment to professional ethical and practice standards.
Purpose
The Pediatric Mental Health Therapist will provide mental health therapy to children, adolescents, and family members through the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) program at Dell Medical School. TCHATT provides telemedicine or telehealth programs to school districts to help identify and assess the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents and provide access to mental health services.
Responsibilities
Attends appropriate training workshops, interdisciplinary meetings and client staffing as required.
Coordinates with referring practitioners, individuals, and family members throughout the treatment. Collaborates with project coordinators and administrative assistants to coordinate patient visits.
Evaluates and provides diagnostic impressions. Formulates treatment plan according to evidence based practices and protocol. Conducts individual, family and group therapy sessions as needed. Monitors patients for suicidal/homicidal intent and ensures patient safety if necessary. Undertakes crisis intervention, as needed.
Participates in departmental meetings, continuing education opportunities, academic and research opportunities to optimize patient best practice and interdepartmental collaboration.
Participates in any supervision, feedback, and quality assurance checks. Maintains client records and performs data entry as required by protocol.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Be licensed as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT. Three (3) years of professional work experience. Strong technological skills and ability to perform computer tasks and utilize electronic health records independently. Ability to work remotely as needed. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients. Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to professional ethical and practice standards. Readiness to adopt new techniques and practices as determined by clinical leadership.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English and Spanish. Proficiency in at least one electronic medical records system, e.g., Athena.
Salary Range
$68,000+ depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
May work around standard office conditions
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
Occasional weekend, overtime and evening work to meet deadlines
