We're using the best available technologies to deliver modern, engaging, reliable, and scalable experiences to meet the needs of our growing audience.The Senior Manager of Software Engineering leads managers and / or professional individual contributors who exercise substantial latitude and independence. Influences the function's (Digital) short-term strategy and executes long-term strategies by setting new standards and developing / implementing new processes and business objectives. As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering, you'll manage a team of Software Engineers and lead other Managers. You'll raise up your team, helping develop individual careers and achieving goals, and coaching and developing new Managers. You'll work closely with stakeholders from product and design, and other engineering leaders, to provide high-quality, repeatable technology delivery for the digital engineering organization. Responsible for managing a team(s) that may include multiple related departments. Participates with other senior managers to influence short-term strategic plans and objectives. Uses influencing skills to gain buy in and manage valuable and complex working relationships. Makes final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures operations effective achievement of objectives. Responsible for resource allocation, prioritization, and financial responsibility. Participates in strategic decision making based on company goals and objectives. Extensive business knowledge with comprehensive understanding of the organization and functional area- Interacts daily with direct reports, peer leaders, and senior leaders effectively communicating and presenting results and recommendations within their departmentManagement:- Manages a team of individual contributors / Managers - Collaborate with Staff, Senior Staff and Principals across Digital to ensure alignment on shared goals.- Coaches / mentors in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed; empowers team members to be autonomous, fast, and effective.- Manages team's HR responsibilities (e.g., pay planning, promotions, expenses, leave)- Leads large team initiatives including technical design / delivery of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves customer and Partner user experiences.- Facilitates goal-level creation for the broader function; works with managers to ensure goals are met; ensure clarity of priorities and goals for the entire functional area.- Works across functions with peers in other groups to ensure collaboration on shared goals.- Applies / fosters understanding of how assigned functional area plays a part in overall business.- Interacts with Directors to ensure reporting and alignment.- Provides meaningful technical guidance on improving codebases and solutions to complex problems; proposes paths forward to drive outcomes.- Recommends changes to processes and tools at the group / department level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices.- Interviews and hires Software Engineering Talent and supports the onboarding to their respective organization. - Builds talent through career coaching, development and problem solving or helping remove roadblocks. What is your background?- Bachelor / Masters' degree in a relevant field of education and / or work experience leading successful projects and coaching / mentoring others in functional area. Completion of H-E-B Leadership programs where applicable (i.e. SORL)- 7+ years of experience- 2+ years of experience managing, mentoring, developing, growing ICs and Engineering Managers- Experience successfully delivering timely, high-quality softwareDo you have what it takes to be an H-E-B Senior Manager of Software Engineering?- Assists senior management in defining organizational goals and strategic plans. - Objectives are defined in collaboration with senior management and results assessed from a relatively long-term perspective.
