Program Requirements

Attend all in-person and virtual training sessions from January 2025 through May 2026.
Complete online asynchronous coursework and field-based experience.
Engage in informal coaching and formal observations.
Pass state-required certification exams.
TeachAustin costs $4,500 tuition which will be deducted from your paycheck over the course of two years.

Eligibility Requirements

Current Austin ISD Employee.

Hold a Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum 2.5 GPA (overall or on the last 60 credit hours). If your GPA is below 2.5, you will be required to pass the PACT exam prior to enrollment in TeachAustin.
Demonstrate content area proficiency for one of the offered certification areas.
Successfully completed a required background and fingerprinting check per TEA requirements.

Selection Process & Timeline:
This information provides an overview of the application process.

Step 1: Submit an application by the Final deadline of December 6, 2024.
Step 2: If necessary, take the PACT or TOEFL exam(s). It is recommended that you register for the exam(s) by September 6, 2024. You must email a copy of your score report to teachaustin@tntp.org by November 5, 2024. To determine if you are required to take the PACT or TOEFL exams, please visit the TeachAustin website. We will also notify you during the application process if you're required to take either of these exams.
Step 3: You must complete a practice diagnostic certification exam that TeachAustin will provide during the selection process..
Step 4: TeachAustin will contact your current principal or supervisor for a recommendation.
Step 5: We will notify you of acceptance from TeachAustin in December. Training begins in January 2025.

EC-6 Bilingual Supplemental Candidates Only*

*If you are an EC-6 Bilingual Supplemental candidate, you will have two additional steps after submitting your diagnostic certification exam and during the interview stage of the process.

You will be asked to submit a two-page, double-spaced essay in Spanish showcasing your written language proficiency. Email your essay to teachaustin@tntp.org with the subject line: Bilingual Ed. Supplemental-Candidate Name-Selection Essay. You will also need to complete a 15-minute video interview in Spanish, where you'll answer three questions to showcase your oral language proficiency.
